Painting camouflage patterns can be intimidating at first but as long as you start with an outline and be sure to number (for paint color) each section, it is pretty darn easy. Here are the steps that we have found works pretty good:
1. Determine the pattern type
If you want to truly camouflage the structure, look at the surrounding areas to see what type of pattern and colors they are and then design your pattern based on them. However, since this is a play structure and your goal is to have a fully satisfied kid, let him choose which one he likes best. The military has the core camo patterns for woodlands, desert, etc but you may want to use the diverse (and sometimes complicated) patterns that hunters prefer.

2. Select the colors
Choose the colors starting with the base color and then the highlights. You should use paint with a flat finish rather than a glossy which will have a shiny finish. Aervoe has military specific colors in spray or gallon sized paints.
Four small areas or touchup, Krylon has several camo-specific spray paints available in:
| Black - 8140 |
Khaki - 8141 |
Olive Drab - 8143 |
| Brown - 8142 |
Light Gray - 8149 |
Sand Dune - 8148 |
| Dark Gray - 8146 |
Medium Brown - 8147 |
White - 8144 |
Examples of some additional common colors are as follows:

3. Develop stencil and project onto the target to be outlined
You can design one by hand if you wish or you can use any of these camo templates:

Once you are done, print it on a transparency sheet (available at office supplies stores) and project it onto the structure using a lamp (some hardware stores have once that look like a metallic bowl with a light in middle).
Once it is projected onto the structure, take a marker and outline it . Be sure to somehow indicate what color should be painted in each area.
4. Paint the structure
Self-explanatory step! Paint the areas of the clubhouse according to the color you selected for each section. Start with the color covering the largest area but be sure to give it time to dry before you paint adjacent sections.
5. Enhance the design
Enhance design with stencils which you make by hand or buy a few of the floral stencils from a local craft store and modify it a bit to remove the excess flowers (like all of them!) These are usually very cheap so that you can tape a few together to paint a larger area at one time. The Stencil Library in the UK has some pretty neat ones to check out too (the barbed wire stencil would be a cool one to add to most any adventure project!).
ReelFoot has stencils specifically made for military or sporting camo:
